Disco, blizzards, and all that jazz
One thing I love about writing is that I get to meet some of the coolest people, spend hours listening to what they enjoy about life, about their passions, about what drives them to be who they are, to do what they do.
I got to spend a long lunch and a lot of e-mails getting to know the history of Jeffrey Lindberg's Chicago Jazz Orchestra for my monthly column, Liner Notes, for Larry's Music Center. Lindberg talked about his musical upbringing, the formation of the Jazz Members Big Band, the effect of freak blizzards on the Chicago jazz scene, and the thrill of playing the Kennedy Center Honors, with sit-ins by big names like Glee's Matthew Morrison and the incredible Stevie Wonder.
Swing on over to Liner Notes to get the whole story.
