The Afghans
Thicket Cottage follower Lori created two amazing afghans and has promised a third custom afghan to donate as contest prizes to help raise funds to improve Thicket Cottage. This is a HUGE gesture on Lori’s part because she does not offer these afghans for sale anywhere, she does not use or sell patterns, and she does not have a social media account associated with her afghans. They are purely an act of love!
We decided that half of the funds raised would go to a mutual aid fund to help others in need in the Thicket Cottage TikTok community, and half will go to make needed improvements to Thicket Cottage.
The Contest
To make the contest equitable and affordable, I decided to hold an essay competition. For your chance to win one of three gorgeous, hand-made afghans, write or record an essay explaining what “Community” means to you. It can be a poem, or a song, or a piece of art, or any other way you want to express what community means to you.
Written essays must be fewer than 1000 words. Recorded essays must be less than three minutes long. One entry per person, please! Multiple entries will not be counted. Contest is open to anyone with a physical address to receive packages.
Each entry must be accompanied by a name, telephone number, email address, mailing address, and a donation of any amount.

The deadline for entries is June 1, 2022 at 11:59pm EST.
Winners will be chosen by a panel of TikTok creators and announced on July 1, 2022 at 8am EST on the Thicket Cottage TikTok channel.
If you are a winner, I will contact you by the phone number you provided and/or via email. Do not give your contact or payment information to anyone who messages you through social media posing as me or claiming to represent me! I will not contact you that way!
50% of proceeds will be used to create a fund for mutual aid for Thicket Cottage’s TikTok community. The recipient(s) for mutual aid will be determined by a panel of TikTok creators based on an application process. Details for applications for mutual aid are forthcoming.
50% of the proceeds will be used to make needed improvements to Thicket Cottage, including replacing windows, installing an indoor shower, refinishing the original pine floors, and more.
